Photographer Helena Nyytäjä,
based in Helsinki, Finland
– and moving around.
Brought up in a family of artists, Helena has always been surrounded by photography, design and art.
One day the daydreaming child, always amazed by nature and life around her, got a simple automatic film camera from her father, photographer Markku Nyytäjä and has continued photographing ever since.
This has led up to a life-long passion for photography as a form of expression, and with awe she explores the world through the lenses of her camera.
After moving back home in 2012 from Sweden, where she obtained a degree in Advertising and Editorial Photography, she has worked with numerous businesses and private persons on projects ranging from advertising, lifestyle and editorials to portraits and art.
With her camera in hand she documents life and her travels around the world, waiting to create magic with light.
“Suddenly this camera, this thing, allowed me to move around the world in a certain kind of way, with a certain kind of purpose.”

First family-trip abroad with baby brother, photographed by Helena around 4 years old.
“Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.”
— Don McCullin
